Where God’s Purpose And Your Passions Meet

The Bike Street Boys are passionate about biking, and not just biking, but challenging themselves to go faster, farther, harder. Team member Bill Rexrode put it this way, “As an athlete, you like to push yourself, see what you’re capable of.” The Race Across Texas (R.A.T.) will certainly do that.

The team members came to sign up for the R.A.T. in different ways, but they’ll be facing the same grueling 1,000 miles. It will be a demanding 7 days that will require every ounce of motivation they can get. “I’ve never done anything quite like this on a bike.” said Bike Street Boy Gary Wixom.

The team formed when Kyle McAdams signed up for the R.A.T. and found out some of his friends had signed up as well. Having completed extremely difficult races previously, Kyle knew the benefit of accountability. “When your legs are throbbing and your heart’s beating out of your chest… the aspect of doing it for someone else… you can’t quit. People are counting on you to finish the race.”

So Kyle came up with the plan of doing the race to raise $25,000 for The Children’s Home. He presented the idea to his buddies, and the team was formed. “It’s a little selfish,” Kyle said, “but kids looking up to you is a pretty good motivator to inspire you to finish.” (The team has raised about 40% of their goal to date.)

The men also mentioned they hoped their race would inspire our kids as well – to be persistant, to have dedication and determina-tion, to face challenges with resourcefulness and to endure.“Hopefully the kids will see somebody from the community stepped up for them, and they’ll carry that on in their lives.” Gary Wixom commented, “And hopfully it will let them know there are other people out there who care.”

IT’S NOT REALLY ABOUT THE RACE ANYMORE, IT’S ABOUT US GOING OUT AND MAKING A BIKE RACE MORE THAN A BIKE RACE. – Bike Street Boy Bill Rexrode
