Old-Fashioned Bit O’ Fun
Two years ago, Wes and Melissa Purser’s small group was looking for a way to serve their community. Several in the group were familiar with The Children’s Home, and they wanted their kids to take part as well, so it seemed a perfect fit.
“Our goal was to do something that involved all the kids and provided a sense of community and an opportunity to allow the older kids to work on a team with the younger ones.”
The idea born from this goal was a field day. The first year was a hit with all the classic games – sack races, three-legged races, a water balloon toss and more. But the biggest hit was the tug-of-war. So this year, the group upped the ante and dug a huge mud pit. “We had kids jumping in there like crazy!” The day was topped off with hot dogs, chips, popsicles and lots and lots of laughter.
“We had such an amazing time doing this field day with The Children’s Home. The best part was getting to see the kids just be kids – encouraging and motivating each other – being carefree and having fun… We look forward to the third annual field day next year!”
Thank you to the amazing families who made this field day incredible.
