Development & Communications Coordinator

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Development & Communication Coordinator will:

  • Research and craft financial grant applications and grant reports.
  • Proactively coordinate and manage special fundraising campaigns and fundraising events in close partnership and collaboration with the Director of Development.
  • Support ACH communication channels including social media, newsletters, and donor emails.
  • Work to foster solid, continuous media relations with local TV and radio stations
  • Solicit and provide donor support for In-Kind Donations for ACH kids, campus families and the mission as a whole, in coordination with the In-Kind Coordinator.
  • Proactively partner with Director of Development to meet budgetary goals in all activities.
  • Hold an unwavering commitment to ACH’s mission by honoring and valuing donors and community members as well as each ACH child and staff member.
  • Communicate with excellence the heart, work, and vision of Amarillo Children’s Home.
  • Learn and work within the donor database for quality donor record management.
  • Provide campus tours to donors and volunteer groups.
  • Collaborate with Director of Development and Executive Director to host prospecting events (Lunch and Learns).
  • Support all aspects of fundraising including grant writing, event planning, special campaigns, in-kind requests, prospecting events, tours, and donor stewardship and engagement including thanking donors.
  • Work collaboratively and supportively with all other members of the ACH team.
  • Represent the organization in a professional manner.
  • Promote a culture of kindness, gratitude and blessing inside the organization.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING:

Development Work through Foundation Requests and Reports:

  • Research foundation funding opportunities. Craft grant requests and reports.
  • Manage foundation relationships with excellence.
  • Thank foundations in a timely manner.
  • Develop, maintain, and share grant records with an internal team.
  • Keep donor database records up to date with grant and foundation documents and funding records.

 

Development Work through Special Campaigns and Fundraising Events:

  • Coordinate and support Amarillo High School’s annual food and fund drive.
  • Collaborate with Director of Development and Executive Director on The Panhandle Gives campaign.
  • Proactively work in close partnership with the Director of Development to plan major fundraising events and donor-centered events including Roots & Wings, all Centennial events and fundraising events, and any new fundraising event in the future.
  • Coordinate logistics (e.g. decorations, displays, food, room arrangements, etc.) and vendors for events (e.g. caterers, bartenders, florists, etc).
  • Track event expenses and revenue and work within event budgets.
  • Build and manage event teams consisting of volunteers/individuals from the community or, as needed, ACH team members. These teams will assist in the pre and post event responsibilities. Collaborate with ACH staff to expand existing volunteer groups.
  • Initiate advance communication with the Director of Development and other ACH administrative team members when calendaring events in order to avoid conflicts or overburdening of schedules.
  • Ensure and manage a system of effective, prompt and timely thanking of ACH’s special event “helper” teams.

 

Communication Support:

  • Craft donor communication pieces including but not limited to donor stewardship letters, donor and prospective donor emails and letters.
  • Support ACH social media communications, under the direction of (and in collaboration with) the Director of Development.
  • Craft ACH Press Releases as needed. Foster positive media relationships with local TV and radio. Coordinate appearances and interviews for the Executive Director.

 

Development Work through In-Kind Donations:

  • Develop and manage an in-kind donation calendar.
  • Work directly with community groups to solicit in-kind donations to support ACH child needs.
  • Work in collaboration with ACH’s In-Kind Coordinator for current and seasonal needs.
  • Work in partnership with the Director of Development for in-kind promotions on social media.
  • Work in close partnership with the Director of Development to build a culture of philanthropy throughout the mission of ACH.
  • Thank donors in a timely manner.

 

Additional Development Support Teamwork:

  • Partner with Director of Development and Executive Director to host donor groups on campus for Lunch & Learn and other donor prospecting events.
  • Help engage the Friends of ACH group, who primarily exists to support ACH Development work.
  • Help engage volunteer groups
  • Collaborate with Director of Development for ACH Newsletter stories.
  • Support Director of Development and ACH Board of Trustees for donor direct mail appeals.
  • Capture donor/prospect/volunteer information and ensure and manage a system of effective, timely thanking those who engage with our mission.
  • Assist the Director of Development with nurturing strong church relations. Such assistance may include communicating regularly with churches to thank them and share the needs of ACH and setting up speaking engagements for the ACH Executive Director or Director of Development.
  • Identify and cultivate in-kind donors to provide items ACH regularly uses, especially items included in the annual budget, and ensure that donors are thanked and cultivated for further donor involvement.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and conduct tours as needed.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; experience in fundraising and donor development may be considered in lieu of bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience in development and/or the fundraising field strongly preferred.
  • Experience in grant writing strongly preferred.
  • Experience in organizing and producing special events preferred.

  • Excellent technology skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office systems (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and donor database systems.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail
  • Sound judgment, professionalism and a positive attitude
  • Resourcefulness, creativity and strong problem-solving skills
  • Must have no disqualifying criminal history; must be willing to submit to a thorough criminal and background check that includes submitting to an FBI fingerprint check
  • Must submit to and pass a drug test
  • Must submit to a tb test and be free from active tuberculosis
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $43,000.00 per year
Expected hours: 40 per week
