We DoNovember 22
WE DO. Since 1924, we have not only recognized need, but we have stepped up to do something. While our kids as well as our methods have changed with the times, we remain those who do each and every day.
TWO YEARS AGO ON HER 14th BIRTHDAY
She was married off by her family to a man over twice her age.
LAST YEAR, ONE MONTH AFTER HER 15th BIRTHDAY
She was brought to us by Child Protective Services, a serious little adult, sweet but solemn and fearful.
THIS YEAR ON HER 16th BIRTHDAY
The entire campus celebrated her, starting with a rousing round of Happy Birthday at 12:01 a.m., continuing with song and merriment throughout the day and culminating in a cake decorated in her favorite colors with her name on it, which so astounded her, she kept asking, “How did you know?!”
She giggle and sang and danced and played, a piece of her childhood redeemed.
