First Night at camp!

We arrived at camp!

After some stops for kids to jump in the Blue Hole in Santa Rosa, several unscheduled bathroom breaks, and a few “keep your hands to yourself”; 5 fifteen passenger vans and three carloads made it to El Porvenir camp in Las Vegas NM. It is located beautifully on a mountain surrounded by pine trees, in fact, the one lane unpaved road leading to camp requires a sense of adventure before you even arrive. One of my highlights so far is seeing the kids get out of the vans and look around.

For some of these youngsters, we might have just as easily taken them to Mars as to the Mountains. Large portions of our kids have never seen beyond the Panhandle. The look in their eye is my hope for them this week. I hope that they will experience and believe that the world isn’t always the only way they have seen it. I hope that they will explore the idea that their life can be different from what they have previously seen.

Most of all I want them to meet an extravagant God and interact with our staff in a new way that reveals how deeply they are cared for and valued. It is going to be a good week.

Today was filled with games, laughter, ending with a campfire and s’mores. We go to bed tonight tired….good tired but ready to see what tomorrow brings.

The forecast is change.
